Communications Director

Position overview

Lead the messaging strategy and communications activity for ABC of Andover with the objective of attracting and engaging volunteers, community members and donors. Develop communications and direct a team of volunteers to execute the day-to-day communications sent to potential students, donors, and volunteers. As Communications Chair, you will have the opportunity to become a member of the board of A Better Chance of Andover if you have a desire to serve in that capacity. Position reports to the President and is accountable to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors (24 members). Hybrid role: team collaboration and independent contributions in-person or online.

What will you do?

  • Manage messaging standards and update organizational branding as needed.

  • Develop templates for Newsletter and Social Media posts and website.

  • Develop a communications calendar teaming with your peer Development Chair

  • Direct publication, including the planning, content development, design and production of:

    • Periodic e-newsletters and an annual print newsletter

    • Social media posts for community outreach, events and Scholar activities

    • Solicitation letters in support of and partnership with Development Committee

    • Event invitations in support of development efforts

  • Support Scholar recruiting efforts; update recruiting videos and presentations.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience in marketing or sales communications.

  • Project management, people management and organizational skills are key.

  • Strong writing skills a must; experience with writing for social media a plus.

  • Requires creativity, adaptability and ability to collaborate.

  • Experience in fundraising, working with a volunteer organization or nonprofit is helpful, not required.

  • Passionate commitment to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

  • 5-10 hours per month; hours per week will vary based on the communications schedule.
