Parent/Guardian Information
The Andover ABC program offers its students a dormitory close to the downtown section of Andover. The house is supervised by several adults. The Resident Directors are in charge of daily activities and overall program success. Two or three Resident Assistants provide tutoring, study hour supervision, academic oversight and support, and share in the overall supervision of the house. An adult is always on duty and students sign in and out so that the adults know where students are.
- Host families are carefully selected to make sure they will support the student well. A board member oversees the host-family program and is available to address any problems or incompatibility that may arise.
- The Andover High School is an excellent public school. It offers Advanced Placement courses in 19 subjects, and 88% of its graduates enter four-year colleges. Many families move to Andover to take advantage of the excellent school system.
- Students with any medical needs often can be treated locally. If students do not have insurance, the national A Better Chance program has a low-cost option to provide it.
- For other forms of support, the board has an academic committee, an enrichment-program coordinator, a coordinator for transportation to and from activities and for vacation travel, and a host family coordinator.
- Andover ABC requests a nominal parental contribution. This is used to offset the cost of travel between the student’s home and Andover. The program pays for round trips home and back for each of the school vacations (except when it involves exceptional distances).
