Andover ABC Selection Process
or
Who is the successful ABC Scholar?

The Andover ABC Selection Committee begins its selection process every February by asking the question, 'What makes a successful ABC Scholar?' As we review the applications we receive from the national ABC office we look for specific criteria which includes: demonstrated motivation, academic achievement (tests scores and grades),excellence as reflected recommendations, demonstrated leadership skills, readiness to leave home, and strengths and passions apart from academics. We are looking for girls who are 'team players", who will be able to take an active role at school, in the house and in the greater Andover community. We are also interested in girls who wish to broaden their life experience. Please note that we only accept students whose family income is at poverty level or below.

THIRD....
Interviews
Students who meet these criteria are then invited to visit Andover ABC on a weekend in March or April for interviews. The goal is for both Andover ABC and the students and their families to determine if our program would be a good fit. Students, accompanied by a family member, arrive midday on Sunday. Interviews and tours of the town are conducted in the afternoon, followed by dinner. After dinner students join the ABC scholars for study hours and stay overnight at the house. Family members are hosted by ABC board members for the night. In the morning, visiting students accompany the scholars to Andover High School where they will sit in on classes and meet with the principal. Family members will attend a brunch and then tour the high school and meet with the principal. We urge students and family members to ask any questions they may have throughout the process. Applicants who are accepted will be contacted by phone by a committee member.
